IGP urges medical practitioners across Nigeria to provide immediate and compassionate care to all those affected by gunshots and accidents, regardless of whether there is a police report or not.

IGP’s directive is in line with the full implementation of CPR 2017, which requires all healthcare providers to prioritize the immediate treatment and stabilization of those in need of medical attention.
IGPs decision comes in response to the continued public outcry from citizens and the wider community, which has highlighted the tragic effects of delayed medical care.
The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police (IGP) has stressed the moral obligation of medical professionals to protect the right to life and to give life-saving treatment to those in need, in order to bridge the gap between law enforcement and healthcare providers, to provide a more compassionate and efficient response to emergencies, and to reduce crime by fulfilling their duty to contact the Police for evaluation while treatment is taking place.
He has urged all medical institutions and practitioners to follow these guidelines and to cooperate fully with law enforcement when needed, stressing the importance of life-saving care and the need to make the country a safer and healthier place.
The Nigeria Police will work with all relevant ministries, departments and agencies, particularly the federal Ministry of Health, to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Law.
