You can now minimise a Chrome custom tab in a Picture-in-Picture window using a newly launched feature, “Minimised Chrome Tabs”, in Google Chrome.
While announcing the new update, Google said that the new feature will enable users to switch between their online content and native apps.
When you do this, the content of the native app appears underneath the Custom Tab, which shrinks to a tiny picture-in-picture window.
The functionality, which enables developers to offer personalised browsing experiences within their apps, is coming to Android apps that make use of Chrome Custom Tabs.
Newsng gathered that you would notice a new down arrow in the upper-left corner of an in-app webpage if the feature is accessible in the app you use. The webpage will shrink into a floating window in the lower-right corner of the screen when you tap the arrow. To open the tab again, simply tap the window.
It is possible to move and resize the PIP window labelled “Custom Tab” on the screen. Press the full-screen button in the centre to get back to the Custom Tab. You may drag it to the bottom of your screen or hit the X to close it.
All applications that support Chrome Custom Tabs can utilise this capability. Nevertheless, this capability won’t function with applications like Instagram with built-in browsers.
The launch of the enhanced web experience coincides with Google’s efforts to further integrate online access within Android. People may use gestures like highlighting or circling objects to navigate to the web with tools like Circle to Search and other AI-powered connections.
The update will be rolled out in the most recent version of Chrome (M124), and it is expected to be installed automatically on all devices where developers have previously enabled Custom Tabs in Chrome.
We earlier reported that Google has officially announced that it is limiting the kinds of queries users can pose to its Gemini AI chatbot regarding elections.
