On Friday, October 27th, 2023, Governor Hope Uzodimma attended a rally at Owerri Zonal Youth and Women endorsement. During the rally, he called on the leaders of Owerri Zones to unite and work together to succeed him once his second term as governor is completed. Governor Uzodimma expressed his determination to hand over the governorship of Owerri State to these zones in 2027, based on the support his administration had received from the zones during his reelection campaign.
He also urged the Zones to unite to bring prosperity, alleviate poverty, create jobs that would engage the youth, and decrease violence in the Zone and Imo State as a whole. Mr. Uzodimma urged the youths to avoid any form of violence, vandalism or destruction, as it would only cause harm and stigmatize them News.ng learnt.
He urged Owerri zone leaders, young people and women to speak out against those who are perpetrating violence in the state. “The youths should not engage in violence and those who engage in it are not our allies,” he said, adding that the state would continue to support the Nigerian project because Nigeria is our legacy and Imo state will not abandon it. He urged everyone to come together to reap the benefits of a greater Nigeria.
Dr Macdonald Ederre, Chairman of the (APC) Imo State Committee, said the governor had achieved great success in all areas of human endeavour in the state, adding that all LGs in the state were united behind him. “God is with the governor and no one can take him away from us,” he said.
Chief Henry Njoku, chairman of the organizing committee, declared that the youths and women of Owerri Zone were united behind the governor, noting that they were committed to the implementation of the “Charter of Equity” which would ensure that the zone would have a governor by 2027.
In a resolution/compassionate statement read for the governor on behalf of the Owerri zone youths, Hon.Akarachi Amadi (Member representing Mbaitoli, Ikeduru) declared that the people of Owerri zone have a strong faith in democracy and are united behind the governor’s re-election bid.
The highlight of the event was the award of prizes to the governor and his wife, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma.
