The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has addressed the delays experienced in the Kogi governorship election, attributing the late arrival of officials and materials in some polling units to what it describes as deliberate sabotage by unseen forces.
Haliru Sule, the state INEC Voter Education and Publicity Officer, acknowledged the challenges faced during the electoral process but asserted that the commission had adequately prepared for the election.
He expressed confidence that, despite the hitches, the election would proceed as planned and be characterized by fairness, credibility, and success.
Sule appreciated the efforts of security operatives in ensuring adequate security cover for a peaceful electoral process.
He said the commission remains determined to overcome challenges and uphold the integrity of the electoral exercise.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, has called for a repeat of the electoral exercise in five local government areas.
According to the PDP governorship candidate, election results were already filled by compromised electoral officials before they arrived at the polling units they were posted to.
