The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) recently collaborated with its various departments—Adopt-a-Bin, Circular Economy, School Waste Sanitation, and Lawma Academy—to launch an innovative initiative at Otto Primary School.
The initiative focused on educating and engaging pupils in sustainable waste management practices by providing them with recycling materials.
The program aimed to instil a culture of bringing recyclables to school, reinforcing the importance of recycling and waste segregation from a young age.
As part of this effort, the LAWMA team delivered recycling bins to the school premises, symbolizing the commitment to establishing a sustainable waste management ecosystem within educational institutions.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, commended the initiative, highlighting its significance in nurturing a culture of environmental consciousness among the youth.
He said the initiative stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to sustainability and the active involvement of educational institutions in creating a cleaner Lagos.
”The impact of this proactive initiative was palpable, as it not only raised awareness among pupils about the significance of responsible waste management but also sparked their enthusiasm for adopting and leading sustainable waste practices.
”This initiative underscores the belief that empowering the younger generation is pivotal in shaping a cleaner and greener Lagos for the future,” he adeed.
