Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, on Thursday, spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony for a significant housing initiative to alleviate Nigeria’s housing deficit.
The project, led by CityGate Homes, plans to erect a 480-unit housing development in the Kukwaba area of Abuja.
Minister Dangiwa emphasized the critical role of private sector involvement in tackling the country’s housing challenges in his address.
He highlighted the importance of robust Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to complement government initiatives and effectively address the housing shortage prevalent across Nigeria.
Recognizing the diversity of housing needs among Nigerians, Minister Dangiwa commended CityGate Homes for targeting the mid to high-income market segment, acknowledging the demand for housing solutions across various income brackets.
He affirmed his commitment to advocating for affordable housing, primarily catering to the average Nigerian worker, while supporting initiatives serving diverse housing needs.
Furthermore, Minister Dangiwa extended encouragement to both local and foreign investors, assuring them of ongoing efforts by the Ministry to create an enabling environment within the housing sector.
This, he believes, will stimulate more private-sector participation and investment in housing development across the nation.
He also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to address Nigeria’s housing deficit and provide decent housing for all segments of society.
