In a significant development, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for a comprehensive review of the Criminal Justice Act.
The minister said the review will play a pivotal role in supporting the ongoing reforms within the Nigerian Correctional Service, an agency under his leadership.
He made the call during the three-day National Stakeholders Forum focused on implementing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of States. The Federal Ministry of Justice organized the event.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that a revised Criminal Justice Act would provide a strong foundation for introducing reforms to enhance the Nigerian Correctional Service.
”These reforms aim to improve the justice system and the conditions of correctional facilities.
”The proposed review underscores the commitment to modernize and align Nigeria’s justice system with international standards,” he added.
