Shuiabu Abubakar Audu has been nominated as a potential minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Shuiabu is the son of Late Abubakar Audu, the former governor of Kogi, who died in November 2015 while results of the state governorship election were expected.
Audu was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for that election before his sudden death.
Eight years later, despite many attempts by some of his sons, Shaibu has attained the position of a Federal Executive Council member.
Shiabu’s elevation comes weeks after he lost the APC governorship election in the state to Usman Ododo.
He later dropped his attempt to drag Ododo to court after the intervention of Governor Yahaya Bello.
Many Kogites see his nomination as compensation for his refusal to rock the boat in the party.
The nomination has also sparked jubilation in the political camp of the late former governor, who many still see as the godfather of the state’s politics.
Reacting to the nomination. Kogi State Deputy Governor, Dr. Edward Onoja, congratulated Shuaibu on his nomination to serve as a minister in the cabinet of President Tinubu.
Chief Onoja, in a statement in Lokoja on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Promise Emmanuel, said the nomination is well-deserved and a testament to the ministerial nominee’s dedication to the country’s development.
He expressed optimism that the son of the former Kogi State Governor, Late Prince Abubakar Audu, will deliver in any capacity of choice assigned to him by President Tinubu in his renewed hope vision for Nigerians.
Meanwhile, there are speculations the president may assign the Shiabu the sports ministry portfolio.
With his nomination, he is one of the youngest cabinet members appointed by President Tinubu.
