The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) committee is set to meet on Tuesday to decide on who to appoint as the new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, nicknamed the Super Eagles.
The committee last month shortlisted seven coaches to be considered before the NFF Executive members, according to a report by SCORENigeria. It was also discovered that the coaches on the shortlist include former internationals Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke.
However, one of Pep Guardiola’s longest-serving assistants, Domenec Torrent, seems primed for the job, as he is also eyeing the vacant Super Eagles coaching job following the unceremonious departure of Jose Peseiro.
According to reports, Torrent, a former coach of teams like Flamengo, Galatasaray, and New York City, declined the opportunity to lead Cameroon in favour of managing Nigeria.
A Torrent representative confirmed that Cameroon offered a favourable deal, but the coach opted for Nigeria.

“Cameroon made Torrent a good offer, but we believe Nigeria is best for him.
“He has worked at some of the biggest clubs around the world, and now is a good time for him to work with a national team.
“Africa has amazing potential, and we’re very confident he will do a fantastic job with the Super Eagles.” The representative said.
When Torrent and Guardiola worked together, they won major titles like the Bundesliga, La Liga, and the UEFA Champions League at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The 61-year-old coach, who speaks excellent English, has one of the most impressive resumes of all the coaches who have applied to manage the Nigerian Super Eagles.
