A Nigerian rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, known professionally as Ruggedman, has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Media Division of the Performing Musicians Employers Association Of Nigeria (PMAN).
The announcement was made following the just-concluded national elections on October 24, 2023, in Lagos, Nigeria, where significant changes were witnessed in the leadership structure of PMAN.
The elections were marked by unopposed returns, emotionally charged decisions, and notable alterations in critical positions, keeping industry insiders and music enthusiasts on the edge.
Of particular note is the re-election of Pretty Okafor, who, amidst persistent pressure from delegates, secured an unopposed return as the President of PMAN.
An official of the association who spoke on the condition of anonymity said:
”Ruggedman’s re-election signals a vote of confidence in his leadership and a continued commitment to promoting the interests of musicians in Nigeria.
”The overall election results reflect the stability and continuity sought by PMAN’s members, as key figures like Ruggedman and Pretty Okafor remain at the organisation’s helm.
”With these dedicated leaders in place, PMAN is poised to advance the Nigerian music industry further and safeguard the rights and welfare of its artists.
”The outcome of this election sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting era for PMAN and the Nigerian music community as they navigate the evolving landscape of the industry and continue to champion the cause of performing musicians across the nation.”
