Nigerian teenage striker Ibrahim Hafiz Umar has opted to join English Premier League side Chelsea FC instead of joining Norwegian professional football club FK Bodø/Glimt.
This update was shared on the official X handle of Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who stated that Hafiz is joining Chelsea despite his club Ojodu City Academy initially agreeing a €500k deal with FK Bodø/Glimt to secure the signature of the talented striker.
‘‘Nigerian striker Ibrahim Hafiz Umar (18) has decided for trial at Chelsea instead of joining FK Bodø/Glimt despite club-to-club deal done for €500k. It will be up to Chelsea now, as Hafiz will be on trial for next weeks from Ojodu City Academy.’’ Romano wrote on his X handle.
After making an impression at the 74th annual Viareggio Cup, a prestigious youth tournament in Italy, where he ended as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals in six matches, the 18-year-old became a hot commodity in the football market.
Recall that in February, Chelsea FC had Raheem Sterling jump on a video calling on the young Nigerian striker to convince him of their interest in signing him.
