A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba, on Wednesday, praised the president, Bola Tinubu over his recent public address at the 78 United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The president had addressed over 104 world leaders who had converged in the USA for this year’s edition themed “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity:
President Tinubu had In his lengthy speech spoken about several pressing issues relating to climate change, poverty in Africa and the need for economic development and creation of jobs.
In response to the president’s speech, Mr Agbakoba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), claimed that never before had a president from Africa spoken for the entire continent, claiming that we are not beggars but rather partners on a level with the world’s geopolitical blocs.
His words:
Never in the history of UNGA has an African President spoken for the entire African continent, asserting that we are not beggars but equal partners with the geopolitical blocs of the world.
Not since Kwame Nkrumah and his vision for a pan-African agenda for development has any African leader delivered a speech on behalf of the 54 nations of Africa.
According to him, Africa is solely to blame if it cannot implement good governance in response to President Tinubu’s important policy speech at the UN General Assembly.
In light of this, he challenged Africans to unite their efforts and say to the world that we are awake and not beggars but partners.
He said, “Africa has only itself to blame if it fails to build upon the significant policy speech delivered by President Tinubu at the United Nations General Assembly.
“Let all of us in Africa rally our collective energies and declare to the world that we are awake and not beggars but partners.
