The National Youth Service Corps [NYSC] has expressed its deep sorrow and grief over the tragic death of Joel Grace Chalya, a Corps Member, aged 23, who was attacked and killed by unknown hoodlums in Kaduna on Thursday morning.
Chalya had gone for a jog after morning devotion with her fellow Corps Members, and her phone was stolen. A good samaritan reported the incident to the NYSC Management, who promptly rushed Chalya to the Harmony Hospital Limited, Kaduna, for medical treatment, but she died despite the best efforts of the medical team.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, colleagues, employer, and all those who have been affected by this tragedy,” read a statement from the NYSC on Thursday.
The National Youth Service (NYSC) and the nation are deeply saddened by the passing of one of its own. Megwa said that the incident serves as a reminder that all Nigerians must stand up for their fellow countrymen, who are their children, sisters and brothers.
She added that the scheme is continuing its efforts to bring those responsible for the incident to justice and that it is in close cooperation with security agencies. Megwa also called on the public to collaborate with security agencies in order to ensure the safety of all corps members who are dedicated to serving their communities and contributing to national development.
