In a heartfelt tribute, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, former Senate President of Nigeria, paid his respects to General Yakubu Gowon, a former Head of State of Nigeria.
Saraki, in a social media message, said Gowon steered the nation through one of its most critical and challenging periods.
He also lauded General Gowon’s remarkable leadership qualities, acknowledging that his courage is characteristic of a seasoned soldier.
The former governor of Kwara state also stated that Gowon’s leadership ultimately contributed to the forging of a more robust federal republic after Nigeria’s civil war.

”General Yakubu Gowon, our former Head of State, led Nigeria during one of its most critical periods.
”With the courage of a soldier, the charisma of a gentleman, and the character of a true leader, he promoted unity and reconciliation, forging a stronger federal republic after the civil war.
”On this day, as the nation celebrates this remarkable leader on his 89th birthday, my family and I join the Gowon family, friends, and well-wishers in praying for continued blessings, great health, and wisdom for our dear General. Happy Birthday, Sir!”
