The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that ten corps members are set to travel to India on Sunday to participate in a Youth Exchange Programme organized by the Indian National Cadet Corps.
The annual program commemorates the Independence Anniversary of the Republic of India and brings together participants from various continents, including Europe, Asia, and Africa.
During a pre-departure briefing at the Indian High Commission in Abuja, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the program.
The DG said the invitation, being the second one, was another opportunity for the scheme “to showcase the potential of the Nigerian youths while also allowing participants to understand the socio-economic similarities and differences between the two countries.”
Ahmed noted that Nigeria has diverse cultures and that the scheme was “always open to collaborating with agencies both within and outside the country, for the promotion of its objectives”.
He encouraged the selected corps members to exhibit good conduct in line with the core values of the scheme.
On his part, the Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian, commended the contributions of the NYSC to Nigeria’s development and explained that the selection for participation in the Youth Exchange Programme was influenced by the uniqueness of the scheme and its similarities with the National Cadet Corps of India.
The High Commissioner assured the corps members that the Indian Government would cover all expenses for the trip.
He encouraged them to use the opportunity to make friends from around the world and explore India’s rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and other points of interest, including Indian cuisine.
