Head of the well-known artificial intelligence firm in the world, OpenAI, Sam Altman, has been reinstated in the ChatGPT maker’s board of directors along with three new members.

The company disclosed this in a statement seen by News.ng on Saturday.

Three other members have joined him: Fidji Simo, the CEO of Instacart, Sue Desmond-Hellmann, the former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Nicole Seligman, the former president of Sony Entertainment.

With these additions, OpenAI now has eight members on its board.

Following the completion of a WilmerHale legal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Altman’s November termination, the business reinforced its conflict of interest policy and established new governance guidelines.

The board declared that it supported Altman’s leadership in unanimity.

The four new board members were chosen, and Altman was reappointed, in response to criticism directed at OpenAI for having an all-male board and Summers’ nomination—who has a history of making offensive remarks about women.

The Black perspective is important for developing tools to reduce AI bias, and the Congressional Black Caucus criticized the board for not having enough diversity in a letter that was published in January.

“Sue, Fidji and Nicole have experience in leading global organizations and navigating complex regulatory environments, including backgrounds in technology, nonprofit and board governance,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post.

“They will work closely with current board members Adam D’Angelo, Larry Summers and Bret Taylor as well as Sam and OpenAI’s senior management.”

Several months after losing his position and being fired as OpenAI’s CEO, Altman will be returning to the board of directors of the firm.
