OpenAI has announced that users will be able to access its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot starting Monday without requiring a sign-up for the service. This move, disclosed by the Microsoft-backed startup, aims to make ChatGPT more accessible to users.
ChatGPT, which sparked the GenAI phenomenon in late 2022, can emulate human conversation and undertake various tasks, including summarizing lengthy text, composing poems, and generating ideas for themed parties.
Starting today, in selected markets with a gradual expansion globally, visiting chat.openai.com will no longer prompt you to log in; however, you still have the option to do so if desired. Instead, you will immediately be conversing with ChatGPT, utilizing the same model as logged-in users.
The San Francisco-based company announced its intention to gradually introduce the feature to “make AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.”
The widely used service, which previously set a record for the fastest-growing user base, has experienced a slowdown in growth since May 2023, when its traffic peaked at 1.8 billion web visits, as reported by data analytics firm Similarweb.
OpenAI has implemented additional content safeguards for users accessing ChatGPT without signing up.
These safeguards include blocking prompts and generations across a broader range of categories. However, the company did not disclose the specific categories.
In addition to the free version of ChatGPT, which operates without direct internet access, OpenAI provides paid versions tailored for individuals, teams, and enterprises.
Furthermore, the company might utilize user-generated content to enhance its large language models. However, users have the option to disable this feature.
We earlier reported that Microsoft and OpenAI are collaborating to construct the world’s most expensive supercomputer, which will cost $100 billion and be used to train potent new artificial intelligence.
A recent report, however, provides a new cash amount for the extent of that commitment, citing anonymous persons with knowledge of the project.
