Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, has endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state for a second term in office.
Speaking at a conference organised by the wives of Lagos state on Tuesday, October 18, Wike described the planned campaigns by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and others as a “waste of time”.
Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, disclosed this via a statement on Twitter.
“Any party contesting against APC in Lagos is wasting time. Sanwo-Olu is a super performing governor – Gov. Nyesom Wike,” Akosile tweeted.
Declaring his total support for Sanwo-Olu, Wike noted that he would stand behind the Lagos governor regardless of his political affiliation.
“If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well, even if he belongs to my party, I won’t come. So, for me, if you are in my party and you are not doing well, you won’t see me,” Wike said.
“If you are not in my party and you are doing well, you will see me and that is what I stand for. And I will not regret to say that I’m in support of you.”
Wike has been at loggerheads with his party over Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman’s refusal to resign his position.
