Iyabo Arinola Awokoya, a popular and vocal supporter of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has resigned as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on her social media pages, Awokoya accused the ruling party of exhibiting the same tendencies as Nigeria’s main opposition party – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
She also revealed that a former minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, attracted her to the APC.
She, however, acknowledged the role President Bola Tinubu played in the formation of the APC in 2014, but stated that:
‘’I do not understand how APC is now resembling PDP.’’
She continued:
”Some even now call PDPAPC a faction. This offends my sensibilities to the core.
”The migration of PDP to APC even when President Buhari was still in power offended me, and I wanted to resign then but was persuaded against it by friends.
”Also, Babatunde Raji Fashola’s distinction of APC from PDP gave me some comfort. I have no such comfort anymore.
”I plead guilty: I am not a politician. I yield the floor to all great politicians out there and say thank you for the opportunity to have called myself a party person.
”I continue my path in life as a patriot and a public commentator and analyst. May Nigeria be much better under President Tinubu. Amen.”
