Daniel Bwala, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warned President Bola Tinubu against appointing a politician as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Bwala stated that a former Governor is pushing heavily for the role of Central Bank Governor.
”If he or any politician is chosen for that role, no 16th administration would be riddled with scandals of monumental proportions,” he stated.
He went on to list the criteria for the CBN governor’s role.
They include:
1. He/She must not be a member of any political party
2. He/She must not have belonged to any political party
3. None of his/her family members should be a member of any political party
4. He/She must not have been indicted or is being investigated or prosecuted by any law enforcement body
5. He/She must not own a bank or financial institution, part-own a bank or be a shareholder of any bank or financial institution
6. He/She must not have executed any contract on behalf of a bank or served as a consultant for any bank or financial institution
7. He/She must not have a debt liability with any bank or financial institution.
Azuka Emmanuel, a computer technician agreed with Bwala and wrote:
”Good criteria for choosing a would-be CBN governor. Unfortunately, those that will make the appointment would instead choose a loyalist who may likely come with baggage or fall short of the criteria in many ways. They often prefer someone that can do their bidding.”

Most ex-governors will be guests at the EFCC, with baggage to explain. So being an ex-governor in this country should disqualify him already!
Samuel Oyedepo disagrees and wrote:
”Soludo was a known member of the PDP before he became CBN governor. Are we saying Emefiele isn’t a shareholder or doesn’t have an interest in Zenith Bank, being its former MD? Every CBN governor from Soludo doesn’t measure up to this. Haven said that a core politician should be no no.”
