Senate President God’swill Akpabio has been called upon to disapprove a proposed 15b befitting residence budget submitted by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
News.ng learnt that the group had reportedly sent a letter to the Senate president few days ago urging him to reject the benefiting residence to be built for Vice President Sen Kashim Shettima, the project is estimated to amount to 15b Naira.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project [SERAP] also called on Akpabio to use his good office and review other unnecessary supplementary 2023 and 2024 budgets which they termed a waste of resources, they also asked the senator to cancel a 2.8B FCTA publicity budget
A statement from the group explained that Akpabio has the right to monitor and make sure the spending of each office is done per the constructional provisions and that every public office is under the rule of law.
The statement further called on the national assembly and the Senate owning to the debt crisis of the country, to review and reject wasteful budgets aimed at the comfort of public officials.
According to Serap, the Senate’s public trust will be shattered if they approve such budgets knowing fully well a large percentage of next year’s budget will run on debt.
