Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, has denied reports making the rounds that he is negotiating the return of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach.
Recall that a report published by Complete Sports.com claimed that Enoh had gotten in touch with Peseiro’s representatives and that all parties were amenable to the former Venezuelan and Saudi Arabian coach returning to his post.
”It’s true that the sports minister is in talks with Peseiro over his possible return to the Super Eagles,” a source revealed to the sports outlet.
“The man is willing to return; let’s just wait and see what will happen at the end of the day.”
However, Enoh said in a news release issued by his Special Advisor Diana Mary Nsan that the report’s author had falsified the story purely to create drama and disseminate incorrect information to Nigerians and sports lovers in general.
He stated that his primary responsibility is to guarantee that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) operates effectively and that the sports industry is revitalized by President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda.
Enoh also claimed that it is not his place to exert influence or meddle in matters that the NFF has been tasked with making.

“We have been made aware of some news circulating in certain media channels about the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, supposedly in advanced talks with José Peseiro for a potential return as coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. We want to clarify that this news is entirely false and has been fabricated to create a sensation,” the Sports Minister, as quoted, said.
“The Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, does not interfere with or influence critical decisions of the federations, particularly in this case, the NFF. He operates with utmost decorum and ensures that the federations meet the required expectations and standards in the discharge of their duties.
“The Honourable Minister of Sports is committed to ensuring that the sports sector in Nigeria achieves monumental success under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Therefore, we urge Nigerians who love sports and critical stakeholders, including the media, to continue supporting the Federal Ministry of Sports Development and disregard this false news.
“All updates from the Ministry of Sports Development and the Federations will be communicated through authorized and appropriate channels.” The statement ended.
