The outgoing coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has told those who care to listen that the job of coaching the senior national team of Nigeria is not for everybody.
Recall that Peseiro’s time as the senior national team’s coach had many ups and downs, but it ended well when he led the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023), where they were defeated 1-2 by Cote d’Ivoire in the finals.
His departure has forced the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to begin a frantic search for a new manager to take over the reins as coach of the Super Eagles.
However, Peseiro, whose contract expired on the final day of February and was unable to reach an agreement with the NFF on his wages to continue his job, has disclosed that coaching the senior national team of Nigeria is not for everybody.
“It’s not a job for everybody,” Peseiro said, as per Owngoal.
“You really don’t know what to expect at the job. One minute, you are doing well, and in a flash, another person is questioning how well you are doing.
“We had our best AFCON performance in 11 years, but we still have people not happy about how we got there.
“The fans want to win everything and in style. It is a very difficult job.” The coach noted.
It was revealed that Peseiro’s representatives had received an improved offer from the Nigerian Football Association before he decided to give up. The former coach of the Super Eagles, however, insisted on receiving $120,000 in payment, claiming that the NFF’s $50,000 monthly income was insufficient and that the $80,000 that had been offered before was a fair amount.
