A US-based Nigerian journalist, Jackson Ude, has accused most Nigerian judges of corruption.
Ude made the allegation in a post on his Twitter page on Thursday, July 20.
He was reacting to the recent comments by the spokesperson of the Supreme Court, who said the judiciary had been subjected to fake news in the past couple of weeks.
Ude had alleged that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, had compromised his position by engaging in phone calls with President Bola Tinubu.
His words:
“The Nigerian judiciary is indeed on trial. They have brought to themselves shame and distrust. No one seems to believe them anymore. And it is no one’s fault. The blame is squarely on the judiciary themselves.
“Most judgements are cash induced. At least, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa confirmed it. And the infamous decisions that brought Senators Godswill Akpabio and Ahmed Lawan confirmed how low the Judiciary in Nigeria has fallen.
“In the last week, the judiciary has spent considerable time defending themselves from what they call “fake news.” There won’t be “fake news” if the judiciary stop collecting private jets from politicians.
“There won’t be “fake news” if the judiciary stop attending parties and social gatherings with politicians. There won’t be “fake news” when the judiciary stop asking politicians to pay their children’s school fees.
“There won’t be “fake news” when the judiciary stop writing two judgement and placing them for sale. There won’t be “fake news” when the judiciary stop opening its doors for politicians at midnights.
“The Nigerian judiciary needs to cleanse itself, purge itself of rogue judges and ensure all decisions and judgements are in line with the laws of the land! All eyes are on the judiciary. I am monitoring even their shadows!”
Ude had recently alleged that some judges sitting in the presidential election tribunal met ex-Rivers governor Nyesom Wike in Malaga, Spain, to deliver judgements in favour of President Tinubu.
