Former deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and daughter Sonia have been found guilty of organ trafficking.
A Magistrate Court in the United Kingdom charged the Enugu state politician and his family alongside the doctor involved.
Senator Ekwerenmadu with his accomplices were arrested in 2022 for smuggling a boy to the UK whose kidney was supposed to be harvested to replace that of the ailing Sonia.
The young boy whose kidney was supposed to be harvested was falsely presented as Sonia’s cousin at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
It is understood that the ex-lawmaker conspired to bring the victim to the UK, take advantage of his ignorance and harvest his kidney.
The verdict is the first of its kind under the statutory stipulations of the Modern Slavery Act of the United Kingdom.
