The media firm controlled by Donald Trump, Truth Social, has announced that it would be launching a live TV streaming platform.
According to a press release seen by Newsng on Wednesday, the platform will prioritise “news networks” and “religious channels” in addition to “other content that has been cancelled, is at risk of cancellation, or is being suppressed on other platforms and services.”
Documentaries and other “family-friendly” media will be available on the service.
The rollout of the business’s content delivery network (CDN) will take place in the first phase of the streaming service’s launch, according to the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG).
A CDN, like those run by Cloudflare and Akamai, is a tool used by websites to speed up page loads.
According to TMTG, its CDN will function “independent of Big Tech,” enabling the platform to disregard the regulations of another business.
“We’re excited to move forward with the next big phase for Truth Social,” said TMTG CEO Devin Nunes in the press release.
“With our streaming content, we aim to provide a permanent home for high-quality news and entertainment that face discrimination by other channels and content delivery services.”
In the wake of his Twitter suspension during the Capitol uprising on January 6, Trump founded Truth Social.
The former president had intentions to debut the website in October 2021 and has been using it primarily for political commentary and campaign announcements.
He has been using the site nearly entirely, even after his Twitter prohibition was overturned.
The long-awaited combination of TMTG and special-purpose acquisition firm Digital World Acquisition was authorised by shareholders last month, enabling Truth Social to go public on the Nasdaq and more than doubling Trump’s net worth in a single day.
