Within a year, the most widely used social media platform, Telegram, with its growth, is expected to have one billion active monthly users.
its billionaire founder Pavel Durov described the growth as a “forest fire” in a statement seen by Newsng on Wednesday.
The founder of Telegram, a company headquartered in Dubai, is Durov, a Russian national who fled his native country in 2014 after being ordered to close down opposition groups on the social media site he had sold, VK.
Durov made the billion user assertion when he visited Tucker Carlson’s show.
The CEO is steadfast in his resolve to keep Telegram a “neutral platform,” avoiding geopolitical entanglements despite pressure from some governments.
“We’ll probably cross one billion monthly active users within a year now,” Telegram’s sole owner, Dmitry Durov, stated to American journalist Tucker Carlson in a video interview that was uploaded on Carlson’s X social media account.
“Telegram is spreading like forest fire.”
Durov, whose estimated net worth is $15.5 billion according to Forbes, claimed that although certain governments have tried to exert pressure on him, the app should continue to be a “neutral platform” rather than a “player in geopolitics” with its current 900 million active users.
Some reports claim that after Telegram becomes profitable, it plans to list in the US. The platform is one of the biggest social media players, ranking after Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and WeChat. It is especially prominent in the former Soviet Union states.
Under pressure from Russia, the idea for an encrypted messaging app emerged, and Durov’s brother Nikolai was in charge of the encryption design.
Durov stated, “I would rather be free than to take orders from anyone,” regarding his decision to leave Russia and look for a place to establish his business. He lived in Berlin, London, Singapore, and San Francisco.
We earlier reported that Telegram has released several business-focused features aimed at enhancing client engagement and streamlining communication.
