Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, returned to the country on Monday, April 24, after spending one month in Paris, France. Images and videos on social media showed Tinubu’s arrival at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, amidst dancing and singing by his supporters.
Tinubu’s arrival is expected to kick-start the transition programme of his incoming
administration thoroughly, ahead of the handover date, Monday, May 29.
News.ng lists four things that will happen as Tinubu returns to the country.
- Zoning of National Assembly offices
Tinubu is expected to lead the conversations within his party – the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC) on the controversial issue of zoning the leadership
positions in the incoming 10th National Assembly. Sources in the APC had hinted
that they would wait for the arrival of the president-elect to assign the offices in the
legislature to the various zones. - Lobbying for political appointments
As expected, Tinubu’s arrival will herald intense lobbying within political circles as
politicians, especially those of the APC, will try to get appointed in the new
administration. In the days to go, Tinubu’s residence would expectedly be besieged
by those seeking to be relevant in the scheme of things in the next government. - Preparations for May 29
With Tinubu’s arrival, preparations will be in top gear ahead of the May 29
inauguration date when the former governor of Lagos state will be sworn in as the
next president of Nigeria. The inauguration venue – Eagles Square, Abuja is already
wearing a new look ahead of the historic event in the nation’s capital. - Media activities
The spokespersons of the president-elect will expectedly begin a media campaign
ahead of the inauguration of Tinubu as Nigeria’s next leader. This will include white-
washing the image of the incoming president, which has recently taken a hit, and
galvanizing support for the former Lagos governor to kick-start his administration
without hiccups. The media campaigns will also zero in on the personality of Tinubu
and his plans for the country.
