The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi state, Senator Dino Melaye, has continued his peace moves by meeting key stakeholders in the party after his emergence to fly the PDP ticket on November 11, 2023.
Since he emerged as the PDP flagbearer on Sunday, April 16, Senator Melaye has been visiting the homes of party chieftains to get their support ahead of the election.
He has been accompanied on the visits by the former national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan.
News.ng checks revealed that Senator Melaye has so far visited the two former governors of the state under the PDP, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Captain Idris Wada (rtd), as part of his moves.
Others include Engr Musa Wada, a fellow aspirant in the primary election and former governorship candidate of the PDP in 2019, and other aspirants, including Barr. Kabiru Usman and Joe Erico.
Senator Melaye has also visited some elders in the state, including a former minister of state for health and chairman North-Central Peoples’ Forum, Arc. (Chief) Gabriel Yakubu Aduku and a former deputy governor of the state, Patrick Adaba.
Meanwhile, a PDP chieftain, Theophilus Abu Agada, has advised Senator Melaye to pay attention to the people of Kogi East senatorial district in his quest to be governor.
Speaking to News.ng on the emergence of Melaye as the party’s governorship candidate, Agada stated that the 49-year-old politician deserves the position after getting majority votes from PDP delegates during the primary election.
He, however, rubbished the insinuations that the emergence of Senator Melaye and Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would affect the political fortunes of Kogi East.
His words:
”The good people of Igala will never lose their place in Kogi politics despite the current set political back.
”To be clear, Ododo is a product of imposition as aspirants from Igala extraction were not given a level playing ground to compete in the APC primaries.
”The primaries that produced Ododo as the flag bearer was fraught with irregularities, and as such, nobody can say that the process was transparent and open to all to participate.
”Numbers do not lie, and Igalas remain the majority tribe in Kogi state, and this temporal political setback does not mean they have lost their place in Kogi politics.
”Kogi East will be the battleground in this election, and whichever candidate appeals to their emotions more will eventually be the winner.”
