The General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, has issued a stern warning to illegal car park operators in the state, emphasizing the hazards associated with their operations and unregulated parking activities.
In a recent statement from her office, Adelabu referred to recent incidents that brought to light the risks of using unauthorized parking facilities and unapproved road sections for parking.
She noted that such practices not only endanger public safety but also hinder the state’s efforts in traffic management.
“Operating or using unregulated car parks poses significant risks to vehicle owners and pedestrians,” she said.
She added that such facilities often lack oversight and safety measures, making them prone to security breaches and accidents.
Addressing the impact of uncoordinated parking on traffic flow, Adelabu emphasized that converting unapproved road sections into makeshift parking areas is illegal.
She stated that this disrupts traffic patterns, leads to congestion, and increases accident risks.
Regarding unauthorized individuals soliciting parking fees, Adelabu declared that Lagos State would no longer tolerate such activities.
“The involvement of touts or unauthorized individuals in soliciting parking fees is illegal and should be reported immediately,” she asserted.
Adelabu reiterated LASPA’s determination to eradicate the menace of touting and unauthorized parking activities in Lagos State.
She stressed LASPA’s commitment to enforcing parking regulations rigorously and promoting good parking culture.
“We are deeply concerned about the risks posed by illegal car park operators and unauthorized parking activities.
“Our priority is to safeguard public safety and ensure strict compliance with Lagos State Parking Policy,” she said.
Adelabu urged residents and visitors to use only approved parking facilities displaying clear regulatory signage.
She implored them to report suspicious or illegal parking operations to LASPA via 02012275230, 02012275231, or its website, www.laspa.lg.gov.ng, for immediate action.
