The Uganda U20 National Women’s Team, the Queen Cranes, have vowed to oust the Falconets of Nigeria in the ongoing female football event of the 2023 All-African Games.
The Queen Cranes qualified for the semifinals after emerging second and unbeaten in Group A, which had other teams including Ghana, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.
The Queen Cranes, who finished second in Group A, have to face the Nigerian Falconets, who won Group B, in the semifinals on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ugandan team’s coach, Sheryl Botes, stated in her pregame remarks that her team is full of confidence and that there is a belief in camp that they can create history against Nigeria
“This tournament has been of great importance to us because we have got the chance to play against teams like Ghana and Nigeria, which are some of the best on the continent,” she stated in the pre-match press briefing on Sunday.
“The exposure and experience gained here will not leave us the same. The players have earned a lot facing different teams, and they can only get better going forward.” She added.
Botes said that she is confident that Uganda will pose a great challenge to Nigeria and advance to the final.
“Nigeria is a possession-based team; they are not as direct as Ghana. Therefore, we have drafted a strategy on how to approach this game, and I have trust in my players to execute it to perfection.” She said.
