Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has ignited rumours that he might be heading to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes as photos of his visit to the new APC national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, surfaced on the internet recently.
Anyim, a former Senate President, had visited President Bola Tinubu a few weeks ago alongside a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.
When accosted by State House correspondents after the meeting, the duo claimed they met the president to discuss issues of national importance.
With the photos of Anyim visiting Ganduje now in the public domain, there are speculations that the PDP chieftain is finalizing his plans to move to the APC.
The speculations were further heightened by ex-Governor Dave Umahi’s nomination as minister by President Tinubu.
Umahi is the current senator representing the Ebonyi South Senatorial District. With his nomination, the seat officially becomes vacant, paving the way for Anyim, who is also from the area.
There are rumours that after Umahi leaves his Senate seat, Anyim will contest for the seat under the APC, in an arrangement already perfected by the duo.
Anyim had openly endorsed the APC governorship candidate, now governor, Francis Nwifuru, in his home state of Ebonyi during the 2023 general elections.
He is the first high-profile opposition chieftain to visit Ganduje after the former governor of Kano emerged as the APC national chairman in a special convention held in Abuja recently.
Anyim has also avoided recent PDP events in the past few weeks, suggesting he is done with the opposition party.
