The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has disclosed plans to establish police posts in all FCT Administration warehouses to prevent incidents of invasion and looting.
The announcement comes after a recent incident where a warehouse was looted in Gwagwa-Tasha, prompting the minister’s visit to assess the damage.
Dr. Mahmoud termed the looting as an unfortunate incident, expressing concern over the extent of the damage.
The hoodlums reportedly took away food items and roofing sheets, windows, and gates.
She emphasized that the actions went beyond hunger and were considered criminal.
The minister identified the youths in the area as suspects in instigating the looting.
The incident occurred while the FCT Administration was restocking its warehouses to meet the directives of President Bola Tinubu, who had instructed the distribution of palliatives to residents in all six Area Councils of the FCT.
Dr Mahmoud assured that security measures would be reinforced around all warehouses to prevent such incidents in the future.
She highlighted the criminal nature of the looting, stating that hungry individuals wouldn’t engage in such destructive acts.
In response to the incident, the minister emphasized the need for heightened security to protect food reserves and announced plans to prosecute those involved.
”The unfortunate incident could impact the distribution of palliatives in the territory,” she stated.
“This is a criminal act. Somebody that is hungry cannot move out to remove all the roofing that is here,” she added.
