Former Super Eagles striker Victor Nosakhare Ikpeba, once fondly known and addressed as the Prince of Monaco because of his exploits with the French club has declared that foreign coaches have done more for the Nigerian national team.
The ex-international who made the remarks during the Monday Night Football show on Super Sports said that accolades should be given to Jose Peseiro because he has done well.
Ikpeba who was reacting to the criticism Peseiro received for his negative football tactics in the AFCON 2023 final, said that the coach deserves to be praised for his efforts.
According to him, those who said Peseiro was defensive in his approach in the final against Cote d’Ivoire should be ashamed of themselves because it was the same tactics deployed to beat Cameroon, Angola and South Africa during the tournament.
He said; “What he did in AFCON, credit to him. It took us 19 years to win our first AFCON. It’s difficult to win the AFCON.
“Those who said Peseiro was defensive in his approach in the final should be ashamed of themselves. Don’t forget that was this same approach he used to defeat Cameroon, Angola and South Africa and he was not criticised.
“During my years when we had the best players, we never won the tournament. The foreign managers have done more for Nigeria.
“Accolades should be given to him because he has done well,” Ikpeba added.
