Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has commented on the frequent Abuja warehouse lootings, noting that it highlights economic hardship in Nigeria.
Adegboruwa stated that the current issue is part of the challenges of the current administration’s economic policies.
Adegboruwa emphasized that the prevailing economic policies were not conducive to most Nigerians, leading to frustration and desperation among the populace.
One key issue Adegboruwa raised was the removal of the petrol subsidy, a decision made shortly after President Tinubu assumed office.
”The removal has had far-reaching consequences, contributing to increased transportation costs, closure of factories, high unemployment rates, and a surge in the overall cost of living.
”These factors have significantly impacted the earning capacity of citizens, pushing many to the brink of survival,” he said.
While condemning the act of looting, Adegboruwa underscored the importance of finding a balance between securing lives and property and addressing the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
He warned that such incidents could escalate if urgent steps were not taken to review and adjust the economic policies.
The looting of the Abuja warehouse, situated on the outskirts of the capital, has become a symbol of the widespread frustration with the current economic conditions.
Videos circulating on social media depict hundreds of people carting away sacks of grain and other food items, underscoring the desperation among citizens.
The incident has prompted discussions on the need for a holistic approach to economic reform, with calls for the government to prioritize the well-being of the majority.
Adegboruwa urged President Tinubu and his economic team to consider the impact of their policies on the average Nigerian and work towards solutions that alleviate the financial hardships faced by the population.
”The events in Abuja serve as a stark reminder that the path to economic recovery requires careful consideration and a commitment to policies that prioritize the welfare of the people,” he added.
