The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that its collaboration with the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has yielded positive outcomes, particularly in prosecuting recalcitrant offenders and drivers involved in ghastly crashes.
The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, made this disclosure during the official flag-off of the 2024 Sallah motor rally at Dankogi Park, Zuba.
Biu emphasized the significance of the rally’s theme, “Overloading is a Time Bomb: Stop the Deaths, Do not Overload with Persons, Animals or Goods,” noting its relevance in addressing current road safety challenges.
He highlighted the Corps’ efforts to shift motorists’ attitudes and ensure safer roads in 2024, emphasizing the need for awareness regarding the causes of road crashes.
Furthermore, Biu outlined the establishment of an inter-agency Joint Task Force (JTF) to address trailer-related crashes and fatalities.
”This initiative aims to mitigate risks associated with overloaded trailers, including transporting passengers, goods, and animals.
”The JTF has already made significant arrests along critical corridors, apprehending trailers carrying passengers violating safety regulations,” he noted.
The FRSC boss underscored the importance of combatting reckless driving behaviours such as overloading, drunk driving, and speeding, which endanger not only drivers but also other road users.
He called for enhanced enforcement measures, including deploying radar guns and breathalyzers to curb violations.
Moreover, Biu reiterated the Corps’ proactive approach to road safety, including engaging motor park unions and intensifying mobile court operations nationwide.
He urged all road users to comply with established laws, exercise tolerance, and prioritize travel safety.
”The collaborative efforts between the FRSC and the NBA reflect a concerted commitment to promoting road safety and reducing accidents on Nigerian roads.
”With comprehensive measures in place, including enhanced enforcement and public awareness campaigns, the aim is to create a safer road environment for all,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Inter-agency Joint Task Force has made significant strides in enforcing road safety regulations.
The task force’s recent operations resulted in the arrest of 35 trailers that were found to be carrying 982 passengers, according to a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, FRSC Public Education Officer.
