Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa Almeida, popularly known as Gabigol, has been slammed with a two-year suspension after attempting to deceive anti-doping control.
The talented out-and-out attacker received the hammer after it was confirmed by concerned authorities that he tried to manipulate a doping test, which is a grave violation in professional sports.
Recall that following an incident on April 8th at Flamengo’s training facility, Ninho do Urubu, the Anti-Doping Sports Justice Prosecutor’s Office brought serious charges against Gabigol.
A legal process was later initiated against Gabigol, leading to a trial at the Anti-Doping Sports Court (TJD-AD) and his eventual conviction, which led to his two-year ban.
Recall that he had earlier denied engaging in any illegal activities in a statement released by his advisor, ensuring that the question test yielded a negative result.
Gabigol was accused of violating Article 122 of the Brazilian Anti-Doping Code, which refers to “fraud or attempted fraud of any part of the control process.” It is now expected to be out on April 1, and he will appeal after this sentence.
