The U.S. startup ClearMotion’s road-reading software and active suspension technology have been validated by the German luxury carmaker Porsche, and the two businesses have inked a licencing agreement for the technology.
Ingo Albers, Porsche’s vice president for drive systems confirmed the partnership in a statement on Tuesday.
The company claims that the ClearMotion1 suspension system reduces motion inside cars by approximately 75% when compared to the best existing technology.
It does this by using a combination of hardware and software to scan the road ahead. A compact unit with a motor and power electronics sits in each vehicle’s wheel well.
ClearMotion unveiled its first manufacturing facility last week in China, to produce up to 1.5 million pieces of its patented, high-bandwidth active suspension technology ClearMotion1 yearly.
The technology in the device eliminates unwanted vibration in cars by up to 75%, making driving safer and smoother. The manufacturer described it as cancelling “unwanted motion in cars.”
Albers highlights their commitment to delivering an exceptional driving experience:
“Our roadmap is focused on continuing to lead on the driving experience, and vehicle-motion is the next frontier in delivering a markedly superior experience for drivers and passengers.”
Reacting to the strategic partnership, Christian Steinmann, CEO of ClearMotion, added:
“This collaboration will create a step-change in the way we experience driving in a vehicle and for our expansion into the European market.
“We look forward to creating a fruitful partnership with Porsche and the prospect of building a long-term, cross-brand partnership.”
We earlier reported another strategic partnership between Shippeo and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Yamaha Japan) and Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha USA).
The partnership was confirmed by Isamu “Sam” Kuru of Yamaha Motor Company Japan’s logistics Division.
