Gov Otti appoints prominent finance guru as Accountant General of Abia

Abia governor, Dr Alex Otti, has appointed Mrs Njum Uma-Onyemenam as the New Accountant General of the state.

The appointment of Uma-Onyemenam has generated excitement in the state due to her background in finance.

Uma-Onyemenam has held the role of Chief Financial Officer in leading insurance companies in Nigeria.

She was previously the Chief Financial Officer of NSIA Insurance Limited and held the same role at Zenith Insurance Nigeria Limited.

She is a seasoned finance professional with over 20 years of experience in strategy, business planning and management, financial control and performance management, financial analysis, investment, treasury and tax management.

She has an MBA from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and is a Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) member. She also served as the Vice President (Finance) of the Executive Council of the BGS Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University Chapter 2018/2019.

As a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), Uma-Onyemenam has served in various standing committees of the institute.

She is currently a member of the governing council of Nigeria’s Institute of chartered accountants. She is an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Taxation and The Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria.

”I am delightfully optimistic and gingered for this administration. I wish nothing but the best for our industrial capital to pick up. No time for nonsense at all. I have always believed we need a regional challenge in Nigeria, and others will pick up,” Tony Rule, an Abian, wrote in response to the appointment.

G Harden, another Abian, wrote:

”Abia state hit the jackpot with Mrs Njum Onyemenam as their new Accountant General! Her impressive experience in leading insurance companies in Nigeria makes her a great addition to the team.”

Megan Decker wrote:

”Abia state is lucky to have such a financial powerhouse as their new Accountant General! With Mrs Njum Onyemenam’s impressive track record in the insurance industry, I have no doubt that she will bring success and prosperity to the state.”
