“I was placed on medication for life:” Mercy Johnson speaks about her battle with cancer

Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has opened up about her close shave with cancer disease.

She made the disclosure when hosting veteran actress Joke Silva on her cooking show, Mercy’s Menu.

Mercy said she had to undergo surgery to remove her thyroid, a gland in the throat. She said she was on strict medication to battle the disease.

The actress commended her husband for supporting her all through the medical challenges.

She said:

“I’ve never discussed it where I had a cancer scare and I had my thyroid removed. It was like a journey for us. We had kids and my last was six months at that time.

“We kept saying that we have to understand that, ‘this is the new us. Let’s go get the surgery done’. And when we go there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life.

“It was a reality that we had to sit down. Them giving me a time that ‘you cannot miss my medication. As you wake up, that’s the first thing’, and telling me all of the side effects.”

Meanwhile, Mercy Johnson seems to have ruled out the possibility of giving birth to more children.

The actress, married to Prince Odianosen Okojie, currently has four children,  three girls and an only boy named Henry.

However, it appears Henry, being the only boy pressuring his parents to give birth to another boy child.

The actress recently posted on her Instagram handle that Henry is asking for a baby brother.

She responded hilariously by lip-syncing to a song, saying: “I will rather go blind.”
