A former minister of education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of not taking responsibility for anything.
Ezekwesili was reacting to the escalating insecurity across the country in recent times.
She had also come under intense verbal attacks from APC supporters, accusing her of keeping quiet while her region – the southeast, continues to experience wanton insecurity.
Ezekwesili, a former vice president of the African division of the World Bank, says the ruling party is abrogating its responsibility by engaging in a blame game.
She noted that unless she has executive powers to tackle the issue, the APC and its supporters cannot blame her for the insecurity in her region.
“It appears they have once again conferred on me the Constitutional Duties of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” she wrote on Twitter in response to the criticisms.
“They do so without handing the office to me so I can urgently, decisively and effectively tackle the degenerate state of insecurity in the southeast and other parts of the country; and permanently put them to shame for their abysmal failure,” she added.
She continued:
“Such duplicity is the typical Modus Operandi of the APC-led federal government folks and their fan club, who never take responsibility for anything but suffer from an obsession to “grab power just for the sake of power”.
“When you are ready to hand over formally to me as your Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces, let me know. Until then, enjoy calling my name in vain.”
Ezekwesili, 60, founded #FixPolitics, a research-based citizen-led initiative and the School of Politics Policy and Governance.
She is also a member of the board of directors of Women Political Leaders.
