The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has proactively addressed sanitation and water flow issues in Ilubirin, Lagos Island, by clearing waste debris that had clogged a crucial canal.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve the area’s cleanliness and overall environmental conditions.
The canal had been obstructed by waste debris, hindering the free flow of water and causing potential health and environmental hazards.
To tackle the problem, LAWMA mobilised its resources and workforce to clear the canal, allowing for unimpeded water flow.
”Improving sanitation and ensuring proper drainage systems are essential to LAWMA’s mission to maintain Lagos state’s clean and healthy environment.
”The prompt action to clear the canal underscores LAWMA’s commitment to achieving this goal,” an official statement from the agency read.
Residents and stakeholders in the Ilubirin community have welcomed the intervention, saying it enhances sanitation and reduces the risk of flooding during rainy seasons.
Experts say clearing debris from waterways is crucial to preventing blockages and ensuring the efficient flow of rainwater and sewage.
LAWMA has continued encouraging citizens to dispose of their waste responsibly and support initiatives to keep Lagos State clean and safe for all residents.
The agency says it remains dedicated to its mission of promoting a sustainable and hygienic environment for the well-being of Lagosians.
