Victor Osimhen has been named 8th in the Ballon d’Or awards, a prestigious football award that recognizes and celebrates the best players from around the world. The Nigerian striker, who was crowned the first African Serie A Goal King last season, played a key role in Napoli’s success, helping them to win their first goal in over 30 years.
Speaking after Nigeria’s 4-0 aggregate victory over Ethiopia in the Olympic qualifiers on Monday evening, Senator John Owan said Osimhen’s success will serve as a lesson to Nigerian youth that with hard work, determination, and talent, they can achieve success on the international stage.
Minister Enoh said, “Victor Osimhen’s emergence as the 8th best player in the world is a tribute to his hard work, skill and determination. I commend him for his achievement and for bringing Nigeria’s name to the world. His story is a reminder of resilience and perseverance, and it has set a positive example for many young talents in Nigeria.”
Enoh also expressed his optimism about Osimhen’s future, saying, “Victor’s football career is not over yet, and I am confident that he will continue to develop and reach his full potential. We will continue to support him and others like him to reach their highest potential.”
Osimhen is expected to win the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year award which will take place in Morocco in December.
