The organisers of “Warri Again” have filed a suit against hip-hop star Davido for breach of contract. The suit was filed on behalf of the organisers, led by a former president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick.
The suit seeks an award of ₦2billion plus an additional N30,000,000 for legal fees and expenses. The organisers also want the singer to offer a public apology for the alleged breach of contract to the organisers and the attendees of the concert.
They also want the court to grant them N150 million in damages and order Davido to post an apology on all of his social media accounts and handles, as well as in two national newspapers for four consecutive days.
The statement claims that Davido contacted Pinnick at the beginning of the year 2023, when the two met at Abuja Airport, to request engagement in the 19th edition of the ‘Warri again Concert’, which was to take place on the 6th of October 2023. It states that Pinnick initially refused the request, but eventually agreed and to pay Davido N70 million as Davido’s performance fee.
The claim further stated that Pinnick paid N70 million equivalent to $94,500.00 to Davido on 6 April 2023, with the defendants duly acknowledging the payment. After the payment, it was alleged that Davido produced a promotional video in advance of the event, but Davido did not appear on the date of the event.
The claimant stated that it expended huge resources on print and social media adverts and promotions for the event, adding that on September 29, 2023, exactly a week before the date of the concert, an official letter of reminder was sent to Davido in respect of the event, which contained flight details of a private jet chartered to personally transport him alongside his team to and from Warri, in Delta State for the event, amounting $18,000 in additional costs.
Attempts to reach Davido on October 6, 2023, failed adding that it kept the private aircraft chartered to take Davido and his team to the event at Warri at the Airport in Lagos waiting in case they later show up.
Consequently, Pinnick’s company is demanding the sum of $94,500.00 as a refund of payment and expenditures spent.
