The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) has received drugs seized from the Nigeria Customs Service by its commissioner general, Adewale Adeniyi.

NDLEA and CGC Adeniyi jointly announced a state of emergency against drug addiction in a statement made on Thursday during the handover ceremony in Abuja.

Adeniyi revealed that five suspects were taken into custody during the seizure and that one of them was released on bail. He also revealed that the seized goods would be destroyed immediately to prevent dispersal in society.

According to him, among the items found were 14,340 kilograms of compressed cannabis, 660 225 mg packets of tramadol, 50 bundles of books, 292 jumbo bags, 1,461 packets of cannabis, 1,765 packets of cannabis, 960 bags weighing one kilogram each, 2,042 packets of D5 and other items.

Brig General Mohamed Buba Marwa of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has commended Customs for the seizures.

“We will not only take over the exhibit, but if there is a lead, we are ready to investigate. We ensure that we immediately destroy them. We are not going to give room for its circulation into society”, he stated.
