The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has initiated a nationwide crackdown on the smuggling and hoarding of agricultural commodities to stabilize food prices and ensure food security in the country.
The campaign, in alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda of the current administration, aims to prioritize food security as a national concern.
The acting Comptroller-General of NAQS, Dr Godwin Audu, emphasized the importance of preventing the smuggling of agricultural commodities out of the country, which can negatively impact local production and supply chains.
”To achieve this objective, NAQS is enhancing its surveillance and control measures at all entry and exit points, including ports and land borders.
”Rigorous inspections and monitoring are being conducted by NAQS officers to ensure that no agricultural commodity is exported without proper authorization,” he said.
Dr Audu urged the public to actively participate in the campaign by reporting any suspicious activities related to the hoarding or smuggling of agricultural commodities.
He added that community engagement and collaboration are crucial for the initiative’s success.
”The nationwide clampdown is part of NAQS’s mandate to regulate the handling of agricultural products in Nigeria and contribute to achieving a stable and affordable food supply for Nigerians,” he stated.
