To accelerate the digitisation of its operations and stay at the forefront of technological advancements, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently participated in Huawei’s prestigious annual global event, HUAWEI CONNECT 2023.

The event, from September 20 to 23, 2023, in Shanghai, China, brought together critical global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) players.

In recent years, ICT has become a game-changer across various industries, including customs and border control.

ICT has been instrumental in automating customs services, streamlining data-sharing processes, and enhancing the efficiency and transparency of customs procedures.

The NCS has been at the forefront of embracing digital transformation to modernise its operations.

Led by a delegation that included senior customs officials and representatives from relevant units, the NCS actively participated in HUAWEI CONNECT 2023.

Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, ACG KI Adeola, responsible for ICT and modernisation, led the Nigerian delegation to the event.

The team also included ACG CK Niagwan, overseeing Tariff and Trade, Comptroller H Ishiaku from the Trade Facilitation Unit, Comptroller Gaji from the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report Unit, as well as CSC Baba Ibrahim, CSC Fanyam from the ICT Unit, and SC OC Onuoha from Headquarters.

Dr Jummai Umar-Ajilola, the Managing Director of Trade Modernisation Project Limited, and her team members were also part of the Nigerian delegation.

Under the theme “Accelerating Intelligence for Shared Success,” HUAWEI CONNECT 2023 served as a platform for government officials, business leaders, tech experts, partners, developers, and industry stakeholders to converge, share insights, and explore the latest ICT trends and technologies.

The event featured discussions on cutting-edge technologies, emphasising artificial intelligence (AI), 5G connectivity, cloud computing, and intelligent solutions tailored for diverse sectors, including finance, government, manufacturing, electric power, and railways.

Top Huawei executives delivered keynote addresses, highlighting the company’s vision for the future of the ICT industry.

The importance of collaboration and innovation in shaping the industry’s future was a recurring theme throughout the event.
