The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed deep concern over recent reports detailing the activities of certain individuals operating as intermediaries, purportedly acting as negotiators on behalf of persons involved in criminal activities currently in police custody.
This was disclosed in a statement by the force’s public relations officer, CP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
He said the individuals have allegedly been using the names of high-ranking police officers, including that of the Inspector-General of Police, to intimidate and coerce others.
In response to this alarming trend, the NPF urged all Nigerians to exercise vigilance and discretion when approached by anyone claiming association with senior police officers.
”The practice of exploiting the names of police officials not only erodes trust in the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force but also poses a significant threat to the fairness and reliability of our justice system,” the statement noted.
The force emphasized its unwavering commitment to upholding the high standards and core principles upon which the Nigeria Police Force is founded.
The NPF cautioned members of the force against collaborating with such intermediaries to compromise the ethical standards of the institution.
It asserts that any officer found engaging in such actions will face severe consequences, as the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards activities that could damage its reputation or compromise the administration of justice.
Reaffirming their dedication to upholding the highest levels of integrity and professionalism, the NPF urged all Nigerians to maintain faith in the justice system and to report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities, utilizing the published official contacts.
”The cooperation and vigilance of the public are essential in preserving the integrity of the force and the justice system,” the statement added.
