The deplorable conditions of LEA Primary School in Etsu Dagba, Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, have been brought to public attention by TrackaNG, a social accountability initiative, prompting urgent appeals for immediate intervention.
In a social media post, TrackaNG highlighted the distressing situation at the school, revealing over 100 pupils were compelled to gather under a tree due to a lack of adequate learning facilities.
The existing classrooms, reportedly dilapidated, can only accommodate students in grades 4-6, forcing younger pupils in grades 1-3 to utilize the open space under the tree for their education.
”This dire circumstance has persisted for more than a year, significantly affecting the quality of education for these children, causing the school’s closure during adverse weather conditions,” the advocates stated.
TrackaNG called for urgent action demanding the renovation, equipping, and proper staffing of the LEA Primary School.
The initiative underscores the immediate need to address the distressing conditions faced by the students at Etsu Dagba, stressing the necessity for a conducive learning environment to uphold the students’ fundamental right to quality education.
They specifically urged the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the Universal Basic Education Programme to take swift and decisive action to rehabilitate the school and provide the necessary resources to ensure the student’s right to a safe and quality learning environment is met.
”The community of Etsu Dagba eagerly awaits a positive response and a swift resolution to this pressing educational issue,” the statement added.
