The Nigerian Army has announced its decision to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations of maltreatment raised by a female soldier in mufti, as seen in audiovisuals circulating on social media.
In a press statement, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized the gravity of the allegations and the commitment of the Nigerian Army to maintaining discipline and professionalism.
The statement clarified that the soldier did not follow the established procedure for seeking redress within the Nigerian Army.
According to Nwachukwu, the Army has dedicated Human Rights and Gender Desks at its headquarters and various formations to address complaints related to human rights and gender issues.
He said the Nigerian Army is a disciplined force and urged the personnel to use the available channels to address grievances and concerns.
”We assure the general public that the Nigerian Army as an institution is committed to upholding the integrity and morals of its personnel, and as such, appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
”We urge the public to allow the investigative process to take its course and refrain from making hasty judgments. The Nigerian Army remains dedicated to serving our nation with honour and integrity,” Maj-Gen Nwachukwu noted.
